Imagine your doctor advises you to avoid Salt. What is the best substitute you can find? (there are sweeteners for sugar and Pepper for chilly) Nothing right? There’s no substitute for Salt.

This is why Jesus said that we are the Salt of the earth. You cannot be replaced. Since the ancient days Salt had three major applications. It was used as a flavor, as a preserver and as a fertilizer as well. In other words to make things better. God have put us on the earth to make it a better place. So today’s study is about being Salt and the light. Let us see.

‘Ye are the Salt of the earth: but if the Salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be Salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men…’ Matthew 5:13-16 (KJV)

10 qualities of an effective Preacher

‘Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth’ KJV (2 Timothy 2:15)

How to be an effective Preacher

Pastors today are asking, what are the qualities of a ‘Real Preacher’? I believe the question should be revised as ‘what are the qualities of an effective preacher?’ So let me share with you today, the 10 qualities that transform an ordinary speaker into a effective preacher.

Quality # 1: Walk your talk

Robin Sharma, motivational speaker and the author of ‘The Greatness Guide’ says ‘Your video must be in alignment with your audio…’ As Pastors who preach God’s word it is important that we do what we preach. There is an English saying, ‘Your actions are so loud that I can’t hear what you say’

People will forget what you preach, but they will never forget what you do. If your congregation finds out you are living a double life, they will never listen to you again. A preacher without good character is like a drum. It makes a big noise but within it’s empty. Character is what you do when no one is watching you. I. Preparation

A. The Need to prepare:

1. Some say: “Open your mouth and God will fill it.”

2. Paul said: 2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

3. If you are doing the greatest work in all the world, for the greatest King in all the Universe, doesn’t it make sense to prepare to do it right?”

4. If you are going to handle the eternal destiny of men and women in your hands, don’t you want to be prepared to do it right? Click here to read the rest of, Sermon: How to preach God’s word effectively? 2 Timothy 2:15

Text: Genesis 33:1-18

Introduction

The two boys in our story today came from a godly home, but a dysfunctional home nonetheless.  It may seem strange that a godly home could be dysfunctional but Jacob and Esau had the deck stacked against them by their own parents.  Isaac favored Esau, his rugged outdoors man, while Rebekah preferred gentle Jacob, and neither hesitated to let their feelings show.
