What the Bible says about getting drunk?

Nevertheless my Father was a heavy drinker, but he did not forget to have a drink from the quarter bottle full of ‘Lemon Gin’ which he had kept in a corner of our dining room, after coming home from a busy day(this was before he got saved). It’s not once or twice I was tempted to give it a try because of it’s bubbles and the pale yellowish color, which chilled my mind.

Now I don’t want to write some ‘religious crap’ here, however the Bible has something which caught my interest.

‘Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.’ (KJV) Proverbs 23:31

You know, a glass of alcohol, or a bottle of Beer is very attractive. Ooh, the chilly feeling of drinking a cool glass of Heineken…  However it does not end there. Whether you are a heavy drinker, an occasional drinker, a social drinker alcohol earns tough consequences for your life.

Let’s see what the preceding verse tells us,

‘At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.’ (KJV) Proverbs 23:32

Yes, the Bible says alcohol is like a serpent that bites and a Viper that stingers. Wow! What does this mean. It could be,

- Addiction

- Broken relationships

- Poor physical health

and much more (followed by a great temporary pleasure).

Are you addicted to alcohol and seeking help to be delivered from it? Well chances are that you find it impossible. But the Bible says that nothing is impossible with Jesus and I have experienced it my self. Then what can you do? Simply put your trust in the power of Jesus Christ, and ask him to deliver you.  Remember a glass of Beer cannot take your problems away. It does not give you peace of mind. It does not take your stress away. Only Jesus does.

Repeat the following prayer and sincerely expect Jesus’ to help you to quit drinking forever!!

Dear Jesus,

I know drinking is wrong and is harmful to my body. But I just can’t help it. Anyway I believe that I can overcome it, by your power. Right now, I commit my self into your mighty hands. I invite you into my life. Renew me. Take away my addiction to Alcohol.

Amen.
