God has given some kind of gift to every believer. It could be something significant, or something very simple and insignificant. But the Holy Spirit of God wants you to use your gift for His glory and the expansion of His Kingdom. How do you work in corporation with the Holy Spirit? Let me start with an illustration.

What the Bible says about being Thankful?

In today’s devotional message I want to speak about something different. Let’s talk about being thankful to those who bless us. Let me start with a true story.

In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10 year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A Waitress put a glass of water in front of him. “How much is an ice cream sundae?” he asked. “Fifty cents,” replied the Waitress . The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied the coins in it. “Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?” he inquired. By now more people were waiting for a table and the Waitress was growing impatient. “Thirty-five cents,” she brusquely replied.”The little boy again counted his coins. “I’ll have the plain ice cream,” he said. The Waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and left. The hand of the diligent makes rich. (Proverbs 10:4)

If you want to succeed on the job here’s a character quality you need to develop: diligence. When asked, “What’s your biggest challenge?” employers usually say,

“Finding and keeping good people.” It makes or breaks any business.

“A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich” (Proverbs 10:4).

Diligence calls for being self-disciplined, motivated, alert, dependable, and entails following through. The Bible says, “Diligence is… precious” (Proverbs 12:27) because it’s so hard to find.

Sacrificial giving Luke 21:4

“All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.” Luke 21:4

It says here that Jesus was watching rich people coming and putting loads of money into the offering box in the Temple. But the only offering he noted worthy of was the widow’s offering (which was only 2 Copper coins).

So what’s the difference? even though the rich gave a lot of money it was like taking a drop of water from the ocean. It did not raise a question about their next meal! Still they had a lot of money left, which gave them the assurance and made them feel secure.

But the poor widow gave what she had for her living. She was not worried about tomorrow. Her attitude of giving was not shaped by the capacity of her daily wage.

My dear friends, think for a moment. Is your attitude of giving shaped by the thickness of that bundle you earn at the end of the month? Do you feel your salary is too small so you can give nothing more than your tithes and offerings? How about the building fund? How about giving to the needy in your church?

Jesus honoured the widow’s offering because she had to sacrifice her future in order to give. Then how much more God would honour and bless you if you give unto him sacrificially? Please don’t think your future is secure if you have a sufficient wealth. Money is here today, tomorrow it will be gone. But if you put your trust in the never changing God he will look after you and prosper you.
