Introduction

In today’s sermon I want to address 3 common misconceptions about divine healing.

1. Sin keeps you away from being healed
2. Divine healing is limited only to biblical times
3. Only Jesus Christ could heal sicknesses

Theme: Healing and salvation rightfully belongs to you

Let us see how the Bible answers the first misconception

1. Through salvation we earn our healing as well, Isaiah 53:5a

A. He was wounded because of our rebellious deeds, crushed because of our sins; (deals with the sin problem)
i. Praise the Lord, O my soul! Do not forget all his kind deeds! He is the one who forgives all your sins, (Psalms 103:2-3a)
ii. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we may cease from sinning and live for righteousness. (1 Peter 2:24)

Introduction

This chapter is clear in its teaching about anointing and praying for the sick. James gave some choice principles to guide the believers’ thoughts, discussion, and practice of praying for the sick.

Text: James 5:14-16

1. What to do if you are sick?

The sick should call upon the elders of the church, v. 14a

Let me tell you a story. Recently one of our members left us to go to another church. She accused us of not praying for her daughter in law who was sick. How can we pray for her if we don’t know that she is sick and in need of prayer? This sister could have done 2 things to inform us.

Introduction

Multitudes today are suffering from a disease or infirmity with no relief. They have frequented doctors, clinics and hospitals with little or no help – and are discouraged, angry and bitter!

There are Christians who have been praying for years but not healed. You feel like throwing up your hands in despair since nothing helps, and accept weakness, pain, sickness and distress as your lot in life! But let me show that there is hope in our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
