ChurchCRM: Free Church Management Suite

If you haven’t heard of ChurchCRM before it’s one of the best Church Management Software or CHMS. There are many CHMS Suites available in the market. However, ChurchCRM is the only System that met the criteria to be featured here, (Free, Open Source, Cloud-Ready, Polished User Interface, Secure, Ease of installation and maintenance.) It’s the scope of this post to summarize the key features of ChurchCRM and what you need to set up a fully functioning system. We will not provide any installation instructions.

Features at a Glance

Let’s quickly walk through the features of ChurchCRM to help you decide whether ChurchCRMS is really for you?

1. Dashboards

This is a basic feature that is a must for every CHMS, not just ChurchCRM. It’s designed to give you a quick view of your members.

2. Data Import

The Data Import Function allows you to import data from a comma-separated value (.csv) file. Quite helpful if you are migrating from different software. Not that helpful because it supports only the .csv file format.

3. Congregation Management

You can group members into families for better organizing. You can upload a photograph for each member as well.

4. Sunday School Management

Generates Sunday School Class reports with child and parent contact information. Email Sunday School Teachers, and Parents with the click of a button.

5. Integration with Google Maps

Google Maps integrated into the system helps Visualize members’ home addresses in Google Maps.

6. MailChimp Integration

ChurchCRM is already integrated with MailChimp. Click here to learn more about the MailChimp Forever Free Plan.

7. Reports

Whether your church is big or small reports are essential and crucial for maintaining accountability. With ChurchCRM you can automate the generation of reports.

8. Finances

Financial Stewardship is essential and ChurchCRM has a finance function for tracking tithes, pledges, and gifts.

9. Fundraiser

Fundraiser automation is used for events where members are buying and selling items and/or services to benefit the church.

10. Volunteer Management

Volunteers are an integral group of any non-profit. ChurchCRM helps you manage your volunteers efficiently.

11. Event Calendar

The Calendar feature helps to keep track of events and member birthdays. Unfortunately, though it’s not integrated with Google Calendar at the moment.

12. Canvass Support

ChurchCRM includes comprehensive support to facilitate an every-member canvass effort. (We have no idea what is this?)

13. Tech Support

Click here to refer the online documentation, File a Github Issue or chat with fellow developers if you are a developer. (It’s not fair to expect premium level tech support from a free, open-source software project.)

14. Security

ChurchCRM has provided the facility to encrypt all the incoming/outgoing traffic using the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) with the toggle of a button. However, you need an SSL Certificate installed and configured in the Server for this to function, (obviously!)

15. Automatic Installation

Unlike ChurchInfo ChurchCRM installation can be automated. It will save you hours of troubleshooting. More on this later.

16. Fully Responsive

ChurchCRM doesn’t sport its own Smart Phone App. However, it’s fully responsive meaning you can access it from Smartphones and Tablets also.

The Main Requirements

Next, we will consider the requirements for setting up a fully functioning ChurchCRM installation. Remember, ChurchCRM is a cloud-based software. Therefore for best results, you must install it on a web server.

1. Domain Name

You need a domain name to access ChurchCRM easily over the internet using a web browser. We recommend Namecheap but feel free to buy from any other Domain Name Registrar of your interest.

2. A Web Host with Softaculous cPanel

Softaculous cPanel lets you install ChurchCRM and many other applications with the click of a button. Again we highly recommend Namecheap but feel free to choose a web host of your preference.

3. An SSL Certificate

Again we recommend Namecheap for SSL Certificates. Once purchased the Tech Support Staff will install and configure the certificate for you.

That’s it. Click here if you would like to test drive or download ChurchCRM to install manually.
