Christmas 2009: Lessons from the Angelic Annunciation to Shepherds

A photo of a statue of an angel blowing a Trumpet.

Introduction

The Christmas season is known for two things. It marks the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as well as the end of a year. This year (2009) has been of great significance to our nation, politically, socially, and economically.

It was politically significant as our dear President Barrack Obama was sworn in as the first black American President. Socially speaking we saw the Bart Police shooting of Oscar Grant which resulted in protests and several hours of violence in Oakland, California. Economically speaking this year marked the worst period of the great recession that saw nearly 800,000 jobs lost.

All of these events received the worldwide media coverage that they deserved. They were noteworthy happenings in the history of our nation.

Sermon Notes: How to influence our world for Jesus Christ?

A photo of a person holding a string of lights.

Introduction

In these passages, St. Paul is encouraging the believers of Philippi to apply their faith in Christ to their social life. It is clear that God’s intention is that believers should have an active influence for good in society (See Matthew 5:16). If we avoid society by locking ourselves into a round of safe Christian activities and meetings, we cannot influence our world for God.

Fighting the presence of Pornography and Nudity on Social Media

If piggybacking is art, the devil is a Picasso. Remember Acts 16:17? Fast forward to the year 2020, and the strategy is still working. In this blog post, I wish to share how the devil is pushing pornography and nudity through Social Media today by overrunning Facebook and Instagram with porn and other sexually charged images or videos. Sermon Notes: 5 reasons Christians are reluctant to serve God

Two colored men in the street holding road signs.

Introduction

Someone said, “You were saved to serve”. Ask any Pastor and he will tell uninvolved Christians are the biggest frustration in ministry. There are many reasons why Christians are reluctant to give themselves in service to God. I cannot cover them all in this sermon. However, we will learn about the five root causes of the issue and the antidotes to them based on the encounter Moses had with God in the wilderness. We will be reading from Exodus chapters 03 and o4.

Sermon Notes: A Three-Fold Response to the Great Commission

A photo of a person tossing a Globe.

Introduction

In the Oxford dictionary, the word “commission” has two definitions. One is “an instruction, command, or role given to a person or group.” It reminds us of the great commission recorded in the Gospel of Matthew Chapter 28 verses 19 – 20 (…Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you… – NET) The other is the “authority to perform a task or certain duties.” That reminds us of the power for witnessing which Christ promised us in the book of Acts chapter 1 and verse 8. (But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the farthest parts of the earth.– NET)

Q & A: Fasting and Prayer

Sign indicating no food and beverages are allowed in premises.

At least some form of fasting and prayer is universally practiced in almost all religions. It’s not distinctively Christian although Judaism and Christianity have their own way of doing it. The reason for this Q&A is the lack of understanding among Christians about the spiritual discipline of Fasting and Prayer. It answers some of the basic yet commonly asked questions. Read on to learn the major spiritual truths about this discipline.
