Sermon: David flees to the Philistines

David of Michelangelo

Introduction

In my previous sermon, we observed David running for his life. Saul made several attempts on David’s life but failed because David always depended on God. Tonight we will consider David coming to the point of his life where he felt he cannot run anymore and foolishly decided to take matters to his own hands. The aftermath of David’s decision has three important lessons for all of us.

Introduction

A commonly used phrase is “born again Christian” often in the context of distinguishing between Christians who are “born again” and those not. This is really an incorrect distinction, for all true Christians have been “born again” But what does it mean to be “born again”?

The Bible uses the expression “born again” only a few times. Jesus in His conversation with Nicodemus, (John 3:3; 5-7); Peter in his first epistle, (1 Peter 1:3, 23) although the idea of being “born” of God is used many times, (John 1:13; 1 John 5:1).

In His discussion with Nicodemus, Jesus reveals much about being “born again.” His comments as the basis of our study, let’s examine what the Bible reveals about “The New Birth”.  After we are introduced to Nicodemus (cf. also John 7:50; 19:39). We observe Jesus emphasizing the following.

The Four-Fold Application of Speaking in Tongues

Speaking in Tongues is the New Testament phenomenon where a person speaks in a language that is unknown to him. This language is either the language of angels or other earthly languages (1 Corinthians 13:1). Tongues are important as initial physical evidence of the baptism in the Holy Spirit as well as a gift of the Spirit. This is why I have discussed the doctrine of tongues here as well. Today I wish to present the four-fold application of speaking in tongues.

The Fruit of the Spirit and Christian Leadership

The Fruit of the Spirit in Christian Leadership

Probably the most memorable verses in Galatians are those list the “fruit of the Spirit” (Galatians 5:22-23). The fruit grows from planted seeds. Every Leader should embrace this marvelous list of inward qualities. There are different leadership styles but only the style that aligns with the style of Jesus which manifests through the fruit of the spirit matters. In this post, I give you the opportunity to evaluate your leadership style against the fruit of the Spirit.
