Introduction

Edwin Bliss once said, “The pursuit of excellence is gratifying and healthy. The pursuit of perfection is frustrating, neurotic, and a terrible waste of time.” Interestingly Jesus taught the same principle 2ooo years ago when he visited Mary and Martha in Luke 10:38-42. These sisters from A.D 30 are the basis for my sermon today. They have three important lessons for you and me living in the 21st century.

Christmas Sermon 2015: God calls Mary

Introduction

In the ancient world the word “calling” was of great significance. In those days the word was used to refer to the act of being summoned by the King. Likewise, God also has called or summoned us to his presence. In fact, the Greek word for church (ekklésia) means called out from the world and to God. In today’s message, we will look at three areas in the call of God, from another famous passage. It’s none other than the Angelic visit to Mary. (We have a sermon on Joseph Jesus’ Guardian Father also. See it here.)

Sermon: Young Jesus is Lost and Found

Young Jesus, explaining scripture to experts of the Jewish Law in God's presence.

Introduction

In the movie “Home Alone” the McCallister family, in the confusion and rush to board their flight on time, leaves little Kevin at home and does not know until they are already airborne. A similar thing happened almost 2000 years ago and unlike in the movie, this was for real. The Bible says that Mary and Joseph left Jesus behind on their return trip from Jerusalem. There are three important truths about God’s presence we can learn from this incident.
